June 22 - 25: Suggested Activities

June 22 - 25 : Level 2 - Suggested Activities

You made it! This is the last week of grade two for our students. It
has been unusual, but we have both loved every minute of working
with your kids this year! Have an amazing summer!

The website and videos on youtube will remain up (with the exception of
Bob... which needs to come down at the end of June due to copyright issues),
so if you want to review or finish up some of the things you didn't get to...
they will be there for you!

* If your child is attending school this week we will work on these activities at school.
Please see agenda page at end of Tuesday showing what they have finished, and
what they could still work on at home for the rest of the week.

If you did not finish last weeks suggested activities, please do those first.
This week's activities assume that you already have the skills from last week.

4) Writing - Grade Two Reflection sheet

Here are the detailed instructions for this week's activities.

Zoom in to watch Mr. Newman carving our totem pole!
We will have the opportunity to zoom in on a carving session with Mr. Newman
and Tejas this Thursday at 10:30 - 10:45 AM. (A Zoom invite will come in an email)

Reading
1. Please have your child read a “just-right” (book at their level) book
for 20 minutes each day.
* Depending on your child they could read silently, or out loud to you
or someone else in your home.

2. ALL OF THE BOB VIDEOS ARE NOW UPLOADED!
We are reading aloud The One and Only Bob by permission of HarperCollins
Canada on unlisted youtube videos. Due to copyright issues, you will not be
able to find them on Smarta with Marta. Please use the following links so your
child can listen to the story.
Literacy Links (please go to this page, and follow the links in order)
* To comply with copyright rules, we have to take the videos down at the end of June,
so make sure you finish before then!

Writing
1. This week we will continue with the Social Studies/Writing project.
a. Look at the links for the assignment:
Nunavut - Instructions and Links
If you have access to a printer, please print the sheet out for your
child to fill in. If not, please just write it on a paper for them.
(I tried to keep it fairly basic)
* Make sure you watch the Nunavut video. It is amazing!
b. If your child finishes this activity. Please take a photo of both sides
of the paper and email it to your child’s teacher

2. Please have your child fill in the reflection sheet about their grade two
year. This is different than the one we sent two weeks ago. We would love
to see a copy of it after it is finished. Click on the link below:

My Grade Two Year

3. Encourage your child to continue writing to us. We love hearing about
what they are doing!
* Some students are writing emails to us, and others are writing on paper
and their parents are taking a photo of it and emailing it to us.
You do what works for you.

4. If your child still has time for creative writing, have them keep up with our
daily write. This is where they can write anything they want. Please send us
photos of their writing!

Math
1. Finish one copy  of the “All the Facts” math sheet we put in your packages.
*ONLY ONE - we included 12 sheets to cover multiple weeks! ONE PER WEEK!
Please mark this for your child. If they get it wrong circle it, and if the number is
reversed underline it. Then have them make the corrections.
This may seem easy for your child... this is a GOOD THING! These are all the
facts they need to know to do more difficult math. It is important to do this weekly
to keep the facts fresh in their heads.

2. We have made the final youtube videos of us teaching math this week.
The videos, build on previous skills. If you haven't watched the others
please watch them first.
Because we have so many videos now, I have gone back and put numbers
on them to keep them in order. If you are behind and are catching up, I hope
this makes it easier to know what to do next.

If you choose to do this activity please do the following:

Watch “Math #37 - Math - Adding and Subtracting Strategies - Lesson"
Math #37 - Adding and Subtracting Strategies - Lesson
At the end there are questions for your child to do on their own.

Watch “Math #38 - Adding and Subtracting Strategies - Answers"
Math #38 - Adding and Subtracting Strategies - Answers
Your child can check their work here.

* If possible take a picture of your child’s “on your own” questions and email
them to your teacher.

If your child is struggling, re-watch the videos, and provide them with your own
questions for more practice.

Physical and Social/Emotional Wellness

Please choose from the activities below if you would like a fitness activity.

* There is no new fitness challenge this week. Please choose one of your
favourites to redo this week. Send us an email and let us know which one is your
favourite!

* Please look at the Physical Education links on the website.
You can pick one of Mr. Marta's fitness challenges or try some of the
other activities linked on this page.
